Ellie Sage Magazine
Ellie Sage: Curious About Chemistry
by Katie Smith
11 in x 8.5 in, 4 pages
As part of the Illustrative Design senior portfolio at RMCAD, students were required to produce a final project that combined text and illustration. The goal of the printed project was to demonstrate skills working with illustration and graphic design. I created a juvenile magazine featuring my Ellie Sage STEM character. This four-page magazine introduced the concepts of elements, molecules, and compounds to children at the third-fourth grade level. The first page introduces the concepts with Ellie Sage. Pages 2 and 3 are a two-page spread with a baking soda and vinegar experiment. The last page is a glossary of terms used throughout the magazine. I created traditional and vector illustrations throughout the magazine. I used my seamless patterns on the cover and as the background.
