Ellie Sage Magazine Project

RMCAD BFA Illustrative Design

Senior Project 2024

This magazine is part four of my graduation portfolio project that consisted of a character design, doll, and fabrics.

The goal of the printed project was to demonstrate skills working with illustration and graphic design. This four-page magazine introduced the concepts of elements, molecules, and compounds to children at the third-fourth grade level.

Typography

Spumoni LP

This decorative font is youthful, energetic, and is the base for the Ellie Sage logo.

Skippy Sharp

I chose this font because it resembles a child's handwriting and mimics the expressive lines of the vector illustrations throughout the magazine.

Andika

Following the same philosophy as my 2023 Let's Explore Art booklet, I chose this font because it is a sans-serif font that is recommended for early readers and a favorite of educators.

Rough Draft

This magazine originally began as a two-page spread.  However, the information was crowded.  So, I split the experiment up into a two-page spread and the first page became an introduction.  A glossary and notes pages, as well as front and back cover, were added to create a final printed magazine.

The original yellow color palette was changed to a relaxed cool purple color palette for easier readability.
